Bernanke: The Fed Can Exit Smoothly, But Now's Not the Time

In the Semiannual Monetary Policy Report to the Congress, the Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke said that economic outlook on the US has showed signs of improvement but unemployment rate, which will likely remain high into 2011, may curb consumer confidence and prolong the road of recovery. While reiterating the stance to maintain a highly accommodative monetary policy for an extended period of time, the Fed also showed confidence to exit it smoothly when the time comes.
